Dynamic Ageing-June

A Four-week Live Class Series on Dynamic Ageing. Coming June '22. Registration begins in May!

Change your relationship with your body and with daily movement!

This course is based on the book "Dynamic Aging" by Katy Bowman and features the exercises from this book. Although recommended, reading the book is not mandatory for enrolment.

With over 10 years as a Nutritious Movement™ Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist and teacher trainer, I bring my experience as a RES and as a fellow Dynamic Ager (age 62) to this course. I get it!

Only ten spots are available so that I can give you personal and individual attention. I require a commitment from you to come to as many classes live as possible! You will get out of the course what you are ready to put in and if I can't see you, I can't help you.

If the classes are not at the best time for you, I will repeat this course again. Consider putting it off till next time so that you can take this time for yourself and commit to the process. The September classes are DAY/TIME and DAY/TIME every week for 4 weeks.

About the Course

This course is designed for those who have a desire to move more, average 55-70 years old, but I’ve also had younger people take part and really like it (we're all ageing!). Examples of participants; people about to retire from a life of a desk jockey and wants to get the most out of their retirement plans, and the person who has been "working out" religiously but still has all the issues associated with ageing and would like to know what else they can possibly do!

You do need to be able to get down to the floor, but if you need assistance, such as gradually making your way from a chair to the ground and back up, you will be fine. The classes don’t require you to get up and down multiple times.

If you have the book Dynamic Aging and want to learn more, or learn how to do the exercises with good form, or generally have the support of live instruction, this course is perfect for you.

I am not a physio nor am I medically trained. This course is not for people who are seeking treatment for specific issues. This course utilises movement solutions only! If you aren’t sure if this course is for you, simply use the support button to send an email and I’ll get back to you.

You will use a chair or the wall for support in this course. Standing for an hour or balancing without assistance is not required. Throughout the course I will give you options so that you can always do the variation within your abilities. That said, it is helpful if you can get to the floor. If you cannot and still wish to do the course, you could potentially do those exercises on a bed. The classes are slow and methodical and build so you can stop when you reach the level that you are comfortable with. If you attend the class live, you can ask for support and modifications.

The kind of equipment we use for this course is similar to that found in a yoga class. Mat, blankets, blocks, strap, and bolsters are helpful. You can use common household items for most of these. We also use a half dome. Apart from that, you will need a good wifi connection and if you want to be seen clearly by the teacher, a computer camera that covers your movement area. Make sure your area is free from debris that might trip you or hurt your feet as ideally you will be barefoot (if possible).

You will learn changes that are simple, easy to understand and execute, and can be integrated into your current daily activities. You will learn assessments, exercises and lifestyle changes that can help to maximise your movement practice without a lot of extra time. Most people are surprised at how easy these changes are and often result in reduced pain and discomfort, and greater confidence moving and walking. Some of the testimonials can be seen below. You might also make friends in the community and draw comfort from learning alongside your peers. You are not alone!

In the September DA the class times are: DAY/TIME and DAY/TIME

I know life gets in the way, but do make every effort to come to class live. For those times you cannot, I record each class and upload it to the course the same day (usually within half an hour) so you can view it as soon as you can. Make sure to watch the class before the next one occurs.

I believe this class was the best experience I've had where the practitioner was able to "meet me where I am".

It’s really helped my knee. I used to take three glucosamine and chondroitin for pain and now I don’t take any. I am “bone on bone” and I’m hoping to avoid surgery.

I do love your style; your cues are very clear and your multi-angled (planes) demonstration makes it very easy to follow.  You truly mastered virtual teaching for all level of students.

Before this course, some things I found frustrating that I couldn't completely understand; how to actually drop my ribs, how to bolster properly, and also what knee pit neutral meant. Having you explain it in the course and go through it step-by-step with us was extremely helpful.

I had not made the connection between over stretching my calves and  re-tensing. I know it is going to help me out so much. I can already feel that I am not re-tensing after calf stretches AND I am able to figure out how to relax the other parts of my body

How does it all work?

There are two classes every week, and you must try your best to come to as many as you can real time. I cannot stress enough how important it is to show up to class! I know life can get in the way, but do this for yourself: make the classes a priority. In the rare circumstance that you cannot make it, the recording will be uploaded to the course in about half an hour after class is completed. Take the class as soon as you can and don't miss a class before going to the next one.
In the past two cohorts, I have noticed that the people who get the most out of this course are the people who come to class and engage in the discussions, ask questions, use the community.

The course in its entirety lives on this site. Once you purchase, you will make an account with your email and a password. When you sign in to carolrobbins.ca, you will see any courses that you have purchased. Simply head to the DA course and start reading the content. The live classes have a place in the course and the recordings are uploaded to their spot after class.
I encourage you to go to the course as soon as you purchase to get familiar with it and introduce yourself in the community (a space where you can type questions, even upload pictures and videos if you like).
Every class has notes and reading associated with it, and a list of equipment you may need. You can go to the course any time as often as you like to watch and re-watch the recordings!

There are a few things that I suggest you get comfortable with. First, navigating the website and the course, which couldn't be easier. I made sure of that because I built it myself! I am 62 and I did not have any young tech person make my site; I made it! So I made it with you in mind. The course curriculum is pretty easy to understand. There are four sections (one for each week) with two classes in it. There are some downloads at the end of the course including a list of exercises and the test sheet if you want to record your results (from class).
Here's the tech stuff: I recommend using Chrome browser which my site works best on. Even Apple can use Chrome browser (I use Apple products myself).
On the day of class, make sure you head to the site a bit early because you will need to wait for the class countdown timer, If the timer gets to zero and you aren't shown a "join now" button, refresh your browser. That means using that little circular arrow to the left of the search bar at the top of the screen.
Once the class begins I will not be able to assist you. If you have any issues, try the tips above and then send an email, I'll be happy to do a run through with you before the next class.

I will leave the course open for two weeks after the last class so that you can review the course and any classes you need to re-visit and make notes if you desire.
