Dynamic Ageing-June

A Four-week Live Class Series on Dynamic Ageing. Coming June '22. Registration begins in May!

Course Summary

Change your relationship with your body and with daily movement. The course is based on the book "Dynamic Aging" by Katy Bowman and features all the exercises from this book; although recommended, reading the book is not mandatory for enrolment.

If you are familiar with the Move Your DNA workshops (of which I’m one of 20 worldwide teachers) you will be excited to know I’m offering a similar course built around the book "Dynamic Aging"! This course takes place over 4 weeks with two live (online) classes per week and also includes a Q&A session, notes and downloads. Time and day of the classes are to be determined by the participants (you will be asked for your preference).
 
Following the curriculum outlined by Katy and bolstered by my 10 years as a Nutritious Movement™ Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist (and teacher trainer) I bring my experience as a RES and my experience as a fellow Dynamic Ager (age 62) to this course.  Each class will be recorded and uploaded right into the course curriculum for you to practice and review.

Because I want to give each and every person the individual attention they deserve, only 10 spots will be offered.  Registration closes end of May or when all spots are filled.

Frequently Asked Questions

This course is designed for those who have a desire to move more in their golden years. I like to say that the course is for those average 55-70 years of age, but I’ve had younger people take part and really like it.
You do need to be able to get down to the floor, but if you need assistance, such as gradually making your way from a chair to the ground and back up, you will be fine. The classes don’t require you to get up and down multiple times.
If you want to learn how to maximise your ability to deal with the typical things we experience as we age, this is a great course for you. I’ve had people with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and hyperkyphosis, etc. take part.
Lastly, if you have the book Dynamic Aging and want to learn more, or learn how to do the exercises with good form, or generally have the support of live instruction, this course is perfect for you.

I am not a physio nor am I medically trained. This course is not for people who are seeking treatment for specific issues. This course utilises movement solutions only! If you aren’t sure if this course is for you, simply use the support button to send an email and I’ll get back to you.  

You can always use a chair or the wall for support in this course. Standing for an hour or balancing without assistance is not required. Throughout the course I will give you options so that you can always do the variation within your abilities. That said, it is helpful if you can get to the floor. If you cannot and still wish to do the course, you could potentially do those exercises on a bed. The classes are slow and methodical and build so you can stop when you reach the level that you are comfortable with. If you are able to attend the class live, you can always ask for support and modifications

The kind of equipment we use for this course is similar to that found in a yoga class. Mat, blankets, blocks, strap, and bolsters are helpful. You can use common household items for most of these. We also use a half dome. Apart from that, you will need a good wifi connection and if you want to be seen clearly by the teacher, a computer camera that covers your movement area. Make sure your area is free from debris that might trip you or hurt your feet as ideally you will be barefoot (if possible).

You will learn changes that are simple, easy to understand and execute, and can be integrated into your current daily activities. You will learn assessments, exercises and lifestyle changes that can help to maximise your movement practice without a lot of extra time. Most people are surprised at how easy these changes are and often result in reduced pain and discomfort, and greater confidence moving and walking. Some of the testimonials can be seen below. You might also make friends in the community and draw comfort from learning alongside your peers. You are not alone!

I usually choose the class day and times but this time I thought I’d let you choose! There are a maximum of 10 participants in this course. Once you sign up, you can request the day and time that works best for you via email. I will make every effort to accommodate everyone.

I record each class and upload it to the course the same day so you can view it as soon as you are ready. You can also review the classes as many times as you like for practice, while the course lasts. Once the course is completed, I usually leave the content for a few weeks to make sure you have seen it, practiced, written your notes etc., then the course material is deleted to make way for the next cohort.

I am Nutritious Movement™ certified as a Restorative Exercise Specialist (RES). I've been teaching functional movement for more than 22 years, including Pilates, Yoga and RE. I'm a Dynamic Ager (b.1960) and mother of two wonderful people. I am passionate about how we work including ongoing studies in anatomy and biomechanics. I believe humans require specific types and amounts of movement nutrients in order to optimise function including a robust walking practice, squatting, and getting up and down from the ground. I'm happy to meet you where you are to help you maximise your movement potential and reap the benefits of a movement rich life.

Equal to the inherent risks of movement are the inherent benefits. They main difference is in awareness you personally cultivate and the application of your knowledge. Carol Robbins/Alignment REScue strives to create safe movement situations, but we are doing so for a large range of people. Thus you are the person in charge of your body.
