Dynamic Ageing-September

8 Live Classes held Wed/Sat 10am EDT - Sept 7-Oct 1

See that girl - the 12 year old with the pigtails? She has her whole life ahead of her. It’s universally accepted that a child’s development must be nurtured, and we know that movement is an important part of every child’s growth.

Now look at the other picture, the 62 year old - that woman also has her whole life ahead of her! She also deserves and requires nurturing, care, attention and movement! Both of those people are ageing and growing.

We live in a society preoccupied with youth, where we reward those who seemingly don’t age at all and consider it virtuous to change minimally as we age. This  sustains entire industries such as cosmetics, surgery, compressive garments, diet and of course, fitness. “Old” people often feel invisible or less valued in our society .

But ask any older person you know how old do they feel, and they will probably say “I still feel 20 years old in my head!” Our sense of self feels the same throughout our decades, while our bodies continue to evolve in ways that may look or feel strange to us (who is that person in the mirror?).  However, we are still valid human beings, with bodies worthy of care and attention.

I celebrate my age, and I’m upfront about the number I am (62) because although I probably don’t have the same amount of decades in front of me as I do behind, the rest of my life deserves to be as full of optimism, opportunity, development, and movement as it did back then when my 12 year old self was photographed. In my work, including this course, I try to bring that attitude and celebration of who you are at any age to life. We don’t need to turn the clock back, we need to look forward and continue to nurture and develop the spirt and the body we are in.

Change your relationship with your body and with daily movement!

This course is based on the book "Dynamic Aging" by Katy Bowman and features the exercises from this book. Although recommended, reading the book is not mandatory for enrolment.

With over 10 years as a Nutritious Movement™ Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist and teacher trainer, I bring my experience as a RES and as a fellow Dynamic Ager to this course. You will be taught this material by someone who understands your challenges.

Only ten spots are available so that I can give you personal and individual attention.
The video recordings now all feature closed captioning.

About the Course

This course is designed for those who have a desire to move more, average 55-70 years old, but I’ve also had younger people take part (we're all ageing!). Some participants are retiring from a desk career and want to get the most out of retirement plans. Some have been "working out" and doing everything right but still experience issues associated with ageing and would like to know what else they can possibly do!

In these classes you will need to be able to get to the floor and back up. The classes don’t require you to get up and down multiple times, but you should be comfortable getting to the ground, even if you need to do so slowly.

This course is perfect for you if you have the book Dynamic Aging and want to learn more, or learn how to do the exercises with good form, or generally have the support of live instruction.

I am not a physio nor am I medically trained. This course is not for people who are seeking treatment for specific issues. This course utilises movement solutions only! If you aren’t sure if this course is for you, simply use the support button to send an email and I’ll get back to you.

You will use a chair or the wall for support in this course. Standing for an hour or balancing without assistance is not required. Throughout the course I will give you options so that you can always do the variation within your abilities. The classes are slow and methodical and you can stop when you reach the level that you are comfortable with. You are encouraged to ask for support and modifications.

The kind of equipment we use for this course is similar to that found in a yoga class. Mat, blankets, blocks, strap, and bolsters are helpful. You can use common household items for most of these. We also use a half dome. Apart from that, you will need a good wifi connection and if you want to be seen clearly by the teacher, a computer camera that covers your movement area. Make sure your area is free from debris that might trip you or hurt your feet as ideally you will be barefoot (if possible).

You will learn changes that are simple, easy to understand and execute, and can be integrated into your current daily activities. You will learn assessments, exercises and lifestyle changes that can help to maximise your movement practice without a lot of extra time. Most people are surprised at how easy these changes are and often result in reduced pain and discomfort, and greater confidence moving and walking. Some of the testimonials can be seen below. You might also make friends in the community and draw comfort from learning alongside your peers.

In the September DA the class times are: Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10am EDT from Sept 7-Oct 1
The classes are accessed right here on the site! Just before class time, sign in and enter the class after the countdown.

I know life gets in the way, but do make every effort to come to class live. For those times you cannot, I record each class and upload it to the course, usually within the hour so you can view it as soon as you can. Make sure to watch the class before the next class occurs.

This course will be on the site for the duration of the month + approximately 2 weeks. You should finish the course at the same time as all the participants, this added time is for review/note taking. This is not meant to be a course that you do alone at your convenience. The course will be removed from the site after those approximately 6 weeks.

I believe this class was the best experience I've had where the practitioner was able to "meet me where I am".

It’s really helped my knee. I used to take three glucosamine and chondroitin for pain and now I don’t take any. I am “bone on bone” and I’m hoping to avoid surgery.

I do love your style; your cues are very clear and your multi-angled (planes) demonstration makes it very easy to follow.  You truly mastered virtual teaching for all level of students.

Before this course, some things I found frustrating that I couldn't completely understand; how to actually drop my ribs, how to bolster properly, and also what knee pit neutral meant. Having you explain it in the course and go through it step-by-step with us was extremely helpful.

I had not made the connection between over stretching my calves and  re-tensing. I know it is going to help me out so much. I can already feel that I am not re-tensing after calf stretches AND I am able to figure out how to relax the other parts of my body

How does it all work?

There are two classes every week, and you must try your best to come to as many as you can real time. I cannot stress enough how important it is to show up to class! I know life can get in the way, but do this for yourself: make the classes a priority. If you cannot make it live, the recording will be uploaded to the course about an hour after class is completed. Take the class as soon as you can and don't miss a class before going to the next one.
In the past two cohorts, I have noticed that the people who get the most out of this course are the people who come to class and engage in the discussions, ask questions, and use the community feature.

The course in its entirety lives on this site. Once you purchase, you will make an account with your email and a password. When you sign in to, you will see any courses that you have purchased. Simply head to the DA course and start reading the content. The live classes have a place in the course and the recordings are uploaded to their spot after class.
I encourage you to go to the course as soon as you purchase to get familiar with it and introduce yourself in the community.
Every class has notes and reading associated with it, and a list of equipment you may need. You can go to the course any time as often as you like (for as long as the course is available) to review the recordings.

There are a few things that I suggest you get comfortable with. First, navigating the website and the course, which couldn't be easier. I made sure of that because I built it myself! I am 62 and I did not have any young tech person make my site; I made it, and I made it with you in mind. The course curriculum is pretty easy to understand. There are four sections (one for each week) with two classes in it.
I recommend using Chrome browser on your device.

I will leave the course open for two weeks after the last class so that you can review the course and any classes you need to re-visit and make notes if you desire. After this time, the course is removed from the site. You can rest assured that future courses will not see you or your questions. Each course is scrubbed clean and starts anew.
