Lower Body Biomechanics

A comprehensive course outlining the foundation for your Whole Body movement goals

Your Wellness Journey Starts Here

Foot function depends on the mobility of 33 joints and a large proportion of the body's musculature. Your whole body and its various systems depend on the foot and its continued health. Your wellness journey starts here.

People come to my studio for many reasons and different goals and they all start with their feet! If your motivation is for more or better movement and increased function, the foot is literally the foundation of your body and the starting point to reach any movement goal.

Tension residing in the foot and lower leg affects everything above; the forces that come from a stiff posterior lower leg can throw the top of the body forward (known as acceleration) resulting in forward head, neck and shoulder issues, even headaches! You might be surprised at what benefits you will experience once you start moving your feet.

There is a reason this is the first course I wanted to create: it's truly the starting point to a wellness journey and might be among the most important information I can provide. Optimising your foot function can also improve the functioning of other joints and muscles in the body.

Feel free to preview the introduction presentation below to learn more about your feet and what this course offers. To see the presentation, click on the Introduction section of the Course Curriculum below.

This course does not contain information specific to foot diseases or foot problems. It is not medical advice and should not be used as such. Carol Robbins/Alignment Rescue offers movement solutions to common cultural problems such as feet that don't move as much or as well as they should!

Is This Course Right for You?

While everyone with feet would benefit from this information, I target people who are 40-70. You are feeling the effects of a lifetime of shoe wear, improper shoe wear, foot neglect or abuse, and looking for options to improve your foot health. You are looking forward to a retirement full of activity and continuing an independent lifestyle as a dynamic ager.

If you are looking for solutions to chronic foot problems, know there's got to be more to the story than what your doctor, PT or podiatrist tells you, this course will be full of information for you.

If you are familiar with the work of Katy Bowman and have read the books "Simple Steps for Foot Pain Relief" and "Whole Body Barefoot", this course will enrich your understanding of the concepts and exercises in those books.

Above all, you are not a "quick fix" type of person - you want to know the reason why an exercise is prescribed to you. You have boundless curiosity about how things work and are willing to put in the time to get to the root of the problem.

You will be able to implement some of the information in this course for immediate relief and improved function. Other things will take time and practice. Like any exercise program, you need to give it time and be diligent in application of the exercises to reap the benefits. Eventually you should expect improved overall foot health, and also unexpected side effects of healthy feet like longer walks, hiking, improved knee and hip health, and much more.

Modifications are provided so that you can participate at any fitness level. If you are currently using your feet, you can do this course. For example, you can do some exercises seated in a chair before you do them standing. Equipment is optional but if you do choose to purchase equipment, it is affordable. Equipment includes: a foam half dome, massage balls such as YTU Therapy balls. I do recommend that you do the exercises barefoot or in socks.
An open and curious mind always helps!

I've done my best to be extremely thorough and comprehensive. But if you have questions about anything in the course work, or wish to ask me if the course would be appropriate for you because of any concerns you may have, you can use the support page on this website to email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Whether your goal is to simply enjoy healthier feet or to decrease your dependency on the current support devices you need, this course can help. I do recommend that you do the exercises in the course barefoot. However, if you need to wear shoes for safety reasons, you can still utilise much of the information and gain some helpful tips that you can practice. Many of my clients have transitioned away from using orthotics which were not serving them well after decades of use. So this is an "it depends" kind of answer: it depends on the state of health of your feet, on your motivation, dedication, desire and potential. Get in touch if you need more assistance.

The course includes roughly three hours of video content and some reading. I recommend you take your time and integrate the information as slowly as you need to in order to acclimatise your body to new and different sensations. Plan on spending about one month to complete the course, which is one section per week.
I strongly encourage repeat viewings! You might want to run through the course once a year, maybe in the off season, to prepare for a season of walking and hiking. Each time you watch it, you will come away with more! The course is yours to watch as often as you wish.

"All the material was in a brilliant and logical order...There are so many details that are flawlessly doled out like following bread crumbs on the path. The presentation is not overwhelming and the pace is one of calm curiosity. This course could be called a million reasons true dorsiflexion is important! Everything seems to 'hinge' on it!"

"Your explanation is excellent - even better than Katy Bowman's! I feel I understand it better after watching."

“I think most of us take our feet for granted, however, our feet receive much of the daily impact of life which carries up our body. Carol is incredibly knowledgeable about feet, their functionality and how to optimize their health. I was able to correct my foot placement when walking which has resulted in the disappearance of years of hip pain. How our foot strikes goes right up the entire column of the body. I am grateful for her guidance and plan revisit the program so I can create a new routine for myself with her foot exercises.”

"Like many others, I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about my feet---until I had an issue and experienced just how critical feet are to quality of life. This course is an eye-opener to learning about this very important, but often overlooked, topic. The content provided is top notch and covers everything you need to know about your feet from the biomechanical details of how the foot works, to the exercises that will help improve foot mobility (demonstrated clearly in videos, no expensive equipment required), to the practical tips about how to build optimal foot habits into your everyday life. Useful resources are provided (including a printable exercise guide). Carol's breadth of knowledge and passion for this topic make for a valuable, fascinating journey of learning about your feet and what you can do to optimize your foot health. Don't wait until you have an issue with your feet.......this course allows you to proactively take charge and 'rescue your feet'!"
