Dynamic Ageing-April

Practice assessment based exercises from the book “Dynamic Aging” with a Restorative Exercise Specialist!

April 1-28, 2023

Live Classes every Friday at noon

Change your relationship with your body!

We live in a society preoccupied with youth. We reward those who seemingly don’t age at all and consider it virtuous to change minimally as we age. This sustains entire industries such as cosmetics, surgery, compressive garments, diet and of course, fitness.

Older people often feel invisible and less valued in our society. Our sense of self feels the same throughout our decades, while our bodies continue to evolve in ways that may look or feel strange to us (who is that person in the mirror?). We are still valid, with bodies worthy of care and attention.

In my work, including this course, I try to bring that attitude and celebration of who you are at any age to life. We don’t need to turn the clock back, we need to look forward and continue to nurture and develop the spirt and the body we are in.

It’s universally accepted that a child’s development must be nurtured, and we know that movement is an important part of every child’s growth. But that 63 year old woman also has the rest of her life ahead of her! She also deserves and requires nurturing, care, attention and most of all - movement!

Dynamic Ageing - Online

This course features exercises from the book "Dynamic Aging" by Katy Bowman. Although recommended, reading the book is not mandatory for enrolment.

With over 10 years as a Nutritious Movement™ Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist and teacher trainer, I bring my experience as a RES and as a fellow Dynamic Ager to this course. You will be taught this material by someone who understands and has experienced many of the same challenges you are facing.

The number of participants is kept low so that I can give you individual attention. The classes feature closed captioning for those with hearing issues (or to watch quietly).

7 Recorded Classes

Each Saturday you will receive the week's content and classes. You will do those two classes before we meet for the live class on Friday at noon. Each class is packed with info - so I suggest a few viewings.

4 Live Sessions

Once a week on Friday, we  meet for a live session where I watch your form, answer questions and generally give you the eyes-on support you need to optimise the material.

Bonus Content

Included are bonus exercises not in the book, a 20 minute workout (yours to keep), resources, links and downloads to help you on your way. We discuss "next steps" including a membership option for DA grads.

Support Material

Each lesson is accompanied by a suggested equipment list and relevant material in order to give context to the exercises. Resources are provided.

Message Board

There is an on-site Community Board where you can introduce yourself, ask questions any time, and keep in touch throughout the course.

This course is designed for those 55-70 who have a desire to move more. (Younger and older people are welcome - we're all ageing!). Perhaps you are retiring from a desk career and want to get the most out of retirement plans. Or you have been working out and doing everything right but still experience issues associated with ageing. Or you've been told by a doctor or practitioner that your issues are just "age related" but you wish to be proactive about your wellness.

Maybe you've read Dynamic Aging by Katy Bowman and want to go over the exercises with the support of a Nutritious Movement Certified teacher.

I am not a physio and I'm not medically trained. This course utilises movement solutions. If you aren’t sure if this course is right for you, simply use the support button to send an email with your concerns.

You should be comfortable getting to the floor and back up, even if you need to do so slowly or with assistance of a chair or other stable object.

Throughout the course I will give you options so that you can always work within your abilities. The classes are slow and methodical and you can stop when you reach the level where you are comfortable.

You are encouraged to rest when required, and to ask for support and modifications.

The kind of equipment we use is similar to that found in a yoga class. Mat, blankets, blocks, strap, and bolsters are helpful. You can use common household items as alternatives.

You will need internet connection to stream the classes and attend live classes. Make sure your area is free from debris that might trip you or hurt your feet as ideally you will be barefoot or in socks.

You will learn simple changes that can be integrated into your current daily activities. You will learn assessments, exercises and lifestyle changes that can help to maximise your movement diet without a lot of extra time. Most people are surprised at how easy these changes are. They often result in reduced pain and discomfort, greater confidence moving and walking. Some of the testimonials can be seen below. You will draw comfort from learning alongside your peers.

Everything takes place on this website. Every Saturday starting April 1, you will receive the week's classes. You will complete them at your convenience before that week's live session Friday at noon. During the live sessions, I will help you with the exercises and answer all your questions.

I highly recommend you attend as many live classes as you can. I will address each person in order to learn individual modifications and how to apply exercises optimally. Live classes are recorded and uploaded to the course if you have to miss one.

This course will be on the site for the duration of 6 weeks (four weeks of the course + two extra weeks so you can review/take notes/practice).

The material is released one week at a time. Each week consists of two hour-long classes, equipment list and support material. You will get access every Saturday and have the whole week to practice before the Live class on Friday. You register and attend the Live class in the same place - the course curriculum right on this site.

When you purchase DA, you make an account with your email and a password. Then, any time you sign in to carolrobbins.ca, you will see any courses that you have purchased under the Courses tab on the header menu. Simply head to the DA course to start moving!

Navigating the website and the course couldn't be easier. I made sure of that because I built it myself with no formal training and I made it with you in mind. You will get an email reminder when the week's material is available with a link for your convenience. I suggest using Chrome browser for the best experience.

Your classes are a treasure. This course provided specific ways to incorporate nutritious movement into my everyday. If this 60+ lawyer can do it, you can too!

I believe this class was the best experience I've had where the practitioner was able to "meet me where I am".

It’s really helped my knee. I used to take three glucosamine and chondroitin for pain and now I don’t take any. I am hoping to avoid surgery.

Before this course, some things I found frustrating that I couldn't completely understand; how to actually drop my ribs, how to bolster properly, and also what knee pit neutral meant. Having you explain it in the course and go through it step-by-step with us was extremely helpful.

I had not made the connection between over stretching my calves and re-tensing. I know it is going to help me out so much. I can already feel that I am not re-tensing after calf stretches AND I am able to figure out how to relax the other parts of my body.
